Cloud Nothing

14 Sep

Cloud Nothing is the brainchild of 18 year old Cleveland resident Dylan Baldi, Late in 2009, he started recording a bunch of catchy indie rock songs on his comuter in the basement of his parent’s house. Dylan wasn’t so concerned with them being lo-fi. But since he only had his simple computer and a crappy microphone that’s the way they turned out. Since their first show in December opening for Real Estate and Woods, the band has played SXSW, toured with Wavves, and played shows with Titus Andronicus, Parts and Labor, Best coast, and Kurt Vile. Their live shows have become super tight, displaying an intensity and precision rarely seen in bands of any age.

Cults

7 Sep

As I arrived at Fuck Yeah Fest on saturday the first thing I noticed was a huge line of hipsters and the youth of Los Angeles waiting for will call. I had to ask  a few volunteers until I was pointed in the right direction for the press line.

I got to festival earlier then I had wanted to so I could get give myself enough time to prepare and hang out before my interview with Andy from the Local Natives. Fast-Forward 45 minutes and I moved 15 feet. I try not to get anxious but I nearly missed my interview and could not believe how unorganized the festival was. I don’t think they expected as many people to show up as they did.

I had no problem once I got into the venue as far as getting into the photo pit and (or) getting to my interviews which was amazing. Thanks to Andy and all the people I had the chance to hang out and talk with.

Lastly, I’ve been trying to think of how I was going to organize all the photos from Fuck Yeah Fest and decided to post the photos per band. Today I am going to start with the band the Cults.

Twin Shadow

25 Aug

It’s high noon in Brooklyn but its always midnight on southern, dead end suburban streets. Here, there is total silence except for the house at the very end, where inside a tin roof garage, teenagers are kissing for the first time. The humidity is too great, the boys peel off white t’s and the girls cheeks are flushed, beet red under the garage’s two fluorescent stripes. In a pond behind the house an alligator waits for a snow birds’ Pomeranian to take its night stroll. A child is sleep walking for the first time. Some one is running away for the last time. The music is too loud on the 12 D battery boom box radio, the cops are on their way. It’s at this moment you hear the music of Twin Shadow on a radio station transmitting suburban ghost dreams that sound like a slow motion shot of a cannon, singing about spirits, visions, and aural hallucinations cutting through the first American night.

Local Natives

If you haven’t heard of these guys, you have officially been living under a rock. Their debut album, Gorilla Manor, was released in February here in the States and is quickly becoming one of my favorite albums of this year.

Here is one of the tracks from the album:

Toro Y Moi and Caribou

19 May

I have yet to be this excited/inspired after a show in quiet some time (granted I do mention that this show or that show is the best I’ve been too) but Caribou and Toro y Moi were absolutely amazing last evening at the clubhouse and completely blew my mind.

I’ve been wanting to see Toro y Moi perform for quiet sometime especially after all the buzz started flowing around the internet and I was not let down at all.
